| Mystery Readers International - - MRI, the largest mystery fan/reader organization in the world, is open to all readers, fans, critics, editors, publishers, and writers. Members in all 50 US states and 18 other countries. MRI members vote each year to nominate and select the winners of the Macavity Award. MRI publishes the quarterly, Mystery Readers Journal. | MRI does not sponsor a conference. The Macavity Awards are celebrated typically at Bouchercon. |
| Bouchercon Committee Bouchercon is a self-perpetuating annual mystery fans conference with possibly the largest attendance at any such conference, typically about 1500. | International Thriller Writers (ITW) Founded in 2004, the ITW now consists of about 100 published thriller authors. The organization promotes its books through the group and provides collegiality among the authors. It offers an annual 5 day convention in New York known as Thrillerfest and includes a two day Craftfest with a full program of prominent thriller writers who give presentations in the craft of writing thrillers. | Mystery Writers of America (MWA) MWA is the premier organization for mystery and crime writers, professionals allied to the crime writing field, aspiring crime writers, and folks who just love to read crime fiction. It was founded in 1945. There are over 600 active (voting) members; active membership requires that an author have been published by an approved book publisher (self-publishing excluded). The organization selects and awards the Edgar Awards. | Edgar Award Banquet and Symposium -- The Banquet is held once a year for the purpose of announcing and presenting the Edgar Awards. The Symposium is a one day event that takes place the same week as the Banquet and includes presentations on the craft or mystery writing. |
